What Is the Taxi Fare in Abu Dhabi in 2026?

A taxi in Abu Dhabi costs AED 5.00 to start by day and AED 5.50 at night, then AED 1.82 per km and AED 0.50 per minute of waiting, with an AED 12 minimum. Abu Dhabi Mobility, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), publishes one tariff for every taxi it licenses in the emirate, Al Ain included.

Figures from the Abu Dhabi Mobility taxi fare page, checked October 2026. The emirate has 6,390 taxis, 222 of them working at the airport.

What Is the Abu Dhabi Taxi Rate per Km?

The Abu Dhabi taxi rate is AED 1.82 per km, and it stays the same at night. Only the flag fall (up 50 fils) and the booking fee (up AED 1) rise after 22:00, so a hailed ride above the minimum costs exactly 50 fils more at midnight than at noon. By day with no waiting, 5 km costs AED 14.10, 20 km AED 41.40 and 50 km AED 96.00.

The rate comes from Abu Dhabi Executive Council Decision No. 44 of 2017, in force since 1 June 2017 and the first increase since 2012. It lifted the kilometre charge from AED 1.60 (AED 1.69 at night), raised the flag fall from AED 3.50 and AED 4.00, and added the AED 12 minimum. Nothing has moved since, while Dubai links its kilometre charge to fuel and reviews it every two months.

How Is an Abu Dhabi Taxi Fare Calculated?

Add the starting charge (AED 5.00, AED 5.50 at night, or AED 20.00 at the airport rank), the booking fee if you booked, the kilometres at AED 1.82 and the waiting minutes at AED 0.50. If a city trip comes to less than AED 12, you pay AED 12.

Four Worked Examples

  • Street hail by day, 8 km, 4 minutes at lights: AED 5.00 + AED 14.56 + AED 2.00 = AED 21.56.
  • App booking at night, 6 km, clear roads: AED 5.50 + AED 5.00 booking fee + AED 10.92 = AED 21.42.
  • Short hop by day, 2 km, hailed: AED 5.00 + AED 3.64 = AED 8.64, which is under the minimum, so the fare is AED 12.00.
  • AUH rank to the Corniche, 35 km, 8 minutes in traffic: AED 20.00 + AED 63.70 + AED 4.00 = AED 87.70.

Waiting is the part estimates miss: twenty minutes at a standstill on a bridge approach adds AED 10 to an otherwise predictable fare.

How Much Is a Taxi from Abu Dhabi Airport?

A taxi from the rank at Zayed International Airport (AUH) starts at AED 20.00, day or night, then charges the normal AED 1.82 per km and AED 0.50 per waiting minute. The AED 20 replaces the flag fall; there is no airport surcharge on top. AUH sits between the city and Dubai, about 35 km from the Corniche, so Dubai is closer to the airport than to the city centre.

From AUH to Approx. road distance Meter, clear run Typical range
Yas Island 6 to 12 km AED 31 to 42 AED 32 to 45
Khalifa City A 10 km AED 38 AED 38 to 45
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque 20 km AED 56 AED 56 to 65
Saadiyat Island 30 to 34 km AED 75 to 82 AED 75 to 90
Al Reem or Al Maryah Island 33 km AED 80 AED 80 to 90
Corniche 35 to 37 km AED 84 to 87 AED 84 to 95
Al Ain city centre 158 to 162 km AED 308 to 315 AED 308 to 325
Dubai Marina 92 km AED 187 AED 187 to 200 plus Salik
Downtown Dubai 112 km AED 224 AED 224 to 240 plus Salik
DXB Terminal 3 126 km AED 249 AED 250 to 265 plus Salik

Our arithmetic: AED 20 plus approximate road kilometres from Terminal A at AED 1.82. The top of each range allows 10 to 20 minutes of slow traffic; booking adds AED 4 or AED 5.

The same meter runs all the way to Al Ain, and the numbers for the return leg are on our Al Ain taxi booking page. The Dubai side of the run is broken down in our Abu Dhabi to Dubai Airport taxi fare guide, and the rank location at Terminal A is in our AUH arrivals and pickup guide.

Is There a Mercedes Taxi at Abu Dhabi Airport?

Yes: the Mercedes-Benz Vito vans at the AUH rank are official taxis, listed by Abu Dhabi Mobility as the Vito Airport Taxi, and they charge exactly what a saloon charges: AED 20 from the airport, then AED 1.82 per km and AED 0.50 per waiting minute.

For a family with several suitcases, a golf bag or a pushchair the extra space is free, so ask for a Vito at the front of the queue. Limousines are a different product: their companies set their own prices outside the taxi tariff.

Do You Pay Darb Tolls in an Abu Dhabi Taxi?

No: authorised Abu Dhabi taxis are automatically exempt from Darb, alongside ambulances, public buses and motorcycles, so no toll is added at any gate or hour.

Private cars pay AED 4 per crossing at the four bridge gates onto Abu Dhabi island (Sheikh Zayed, Sheikh Khalifa, Al Maqtaa and Mussafah) from 07:00 to 09:00 and 15:00 to 19:00, except Sundays and public holidays, with no daily cap since 1 September 2025. Since 4 May 2026 two newer gates charge AED 4 around the clock: Ghantoot, on Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Street (the E11 towards Dubai), and Al Qurm, on Wahat Al Karama Street at Sheikh Zayed Street.

The exemption belongs to the taxi, not to you. A Dubai RTA taxi bills the Darb fee to the passenger where it applies, and an Abu Dhabi taxi heading into Dubai can cross Salik gates, which the calculator leaves out.

How Do You Book and Pay for an Abu Dhabi Taxi?

Hail a silver taxi with a yellow roof sign, call 600 53 53 53 (+971 2 418 6000 from abroad), or book in the Abu Dhabi Taxi app, which shows an approximate fare first; only the last two add a booking fee. Our Abu Dhabi taxi number guide lists the toll free support line too.

The fee is added to the flag fall, so a booked taxi starts at AED 9.00 by day and AED 10.50 at night: a 6 km daytime ride costs AED 15.92 hailed and AED 19.92 booked.

Family taxis (white roof light, women drivers, families only) and taxis for People of Determination run on the same meter, and People of Determination and elderly passengers with a disability get 50 percent off. Uber and Careem also operate in Abu Dhabi, at their own app prices.

How Are Abu Dhabi Taxi Fares Different from Dubai?

The street hail start is identical, but most other differences favour the Abu Dhabi passenger: a flat booked start, no van premium at the airport, no tolls and a kilometre charge unchanged since 2017.

Abu Dhabi taxi Dubai taxi
Street hail start AED 5.00 day, AED 5.50 night AED 5.00 day, AED 5.50 night
Booked start AED 9.00 day, AED 10.50 night AED 9 to AED 13 by time band
Airport start AED 20, saloon or Vito AED 20, van AED 25
Per km AED 1.82 since June 2017 Fuel linked, reviewed every two months
Tolls Darb exempt Salik and Darb billed to you

Will Abu Dhabi Taxi Fares Go Up?

No new tariff has been approved: in October 2026 the official rates were still those of 1 June 2017. In July 2026 Dubai Taxi Company, which gained an estimated 12 percent of the Abu Dhabi market by buying National Taxi for AED 1.45 billion, confirmed talks with the Abu Dhabi Government on revising fares, which Gulf News noted are lower than Dubai's. No change, level or timeline has been agreed, and the decision rests with the authorities.

Robotaxis are the other change. Abu Dhabi Mobility counts 69 autonomous vehicles in commercial service, and WeRide cars booked through Uber were running fully driverless on Yas Island by November 2025. Their prices come from the apps, not the taxi tariff.

When a Fixed-Price Car Makes More Sense

Inside the city the metered taxi is usually the cheaper choice: 10 km by day costs AED 23.20. A pre-booked car earns its place on long runs (AED 187 to AED 265 on the meter from AUH to Dubai, around AED 310 to Al Ain), on pre-dawn departures, and for groups whose luggage would need two taxis.

Gulf Chauffeur is a private chauffeur service, not a taxi operator: one fixed price for the whole journey, confirmed on WhatsApp before you travel. Our car with driver in Abu Dhabi page explains hourly and full day bookings.

Abu Dhabi Taxi Fare FAQ

What is the taxi fare per km in Abu Dhabi?

Abu Dhabi taxis charge AED 1.82 per km, by day and at night alike. Add a flag fall of AED 5.00 between 06:00 and 22:00, or AED 5.50 overnight, plus AED 0.50 for each minute of waiting, and every city trip costs at least AED 12. A 10 km daytime ride with no waiting comes to AED 23.20. These Abu Dhabi Mobility figures date from 1 June 2017 and were unchanged when we checked in October 2026.

How much is a taxi from Abu Dhabi airport to the city?

From the rank at Zayed International Airport (AUH) the meter starts at AED 20.00 at any hour, then adds AED 1.82 per km. The Corniche is about 35 km away by road, so expect roughly AED 84 on a clear run and AED 90 to AED 95 with traffic. Yas Island costs about AED 32 to AED 45, and Saadiyat or Al Reem Island around AED 75 to AED 90. Booking instead of using the rank adds AED 4 by day or AED 5 at night.

What is the minimum taxi fare in Abu Dhabi?

The minimum trip fare is AED 12.00, day and night. If the meter shows less at the end of a short ride, for example AED 8.64 for a 2 km daytime hop, you pay AED 12. The minimum is listed for the silver city taxis only; airport rank rides never reach it because they start at AED 20. The floor arrived with the June 2017 tariff, before which daytime trips had no minimum at all.

Is there a Mercedes taxi at Abu Dhabi airport, and does it cost more?

Yes, and it costs the same as a saloon. Abu Dhabi Mobility lists a Vito Airport Taxi category: Mercedes-Benz Vito vans that collect passengers at Zayed International Airport. The meter starts at AED 20.00 from the airport by day or night, then charges AED 1.82 per km and AED 0.50 per waiting minute, with the usual AED 4 or AED 5 booking fee if you book. The extra luggage space is free.

Do Abu Dhabi taxis charge Darb tolls?

No. Authorised Abu Dhabi taxis are automatically exempt from Darb, so passengers pay nothing at the four bridge gates onto Abu Dhabi island or at the Ghantoot and Al Qurm gates, which opened on 4 May 2026 and charge private cars AED 4 per crossing around the clock. The exemption belongs to the taxi, not the passenger: a Dubai RTA taxi driving into Abu Dhabi adds the Darb fee to your fare.

How much is the booking fee for an Abu Dhabi taxi?

Booking through the Abu Dhabi Taxi app or the 600 53 53 53 call centre costs AED 4.00 by day and AED 5.00 between 22:00 and 06:00. The fee is added to the flag fall, so a booked city taxi starts at AED 9.00 by day or AED 10.50 at night before any distance is charged. A taxi flagged down on the street or taken from a rank carries no booking fee.
