Dubai Taxi Colours Explained

All standard Dubai taxis share the same cream body colour - but the roof panel tells you which company operates the vehicle. This guide explains what each colour means, how to identify taxi operators across the UAE, and when a private chauffeur is the better option.

Gulf Chauffeur is a private chauffeur service and is not affiliated with any RTA-licensed taxi operator. This guide is provided as a public reference for passengers using Dubai's taxi system.

Dubai Taxi Colour Code (Quick Answer)

In Dubai, every taxi has a cream body and a coloured roof panel, and that roof colour tells you which RTA-licensed company operates the vehicle - red is Dubai Taxi Corporation, yellow is National Taxi (now owned by DTC), blue or purple is Kabi (formerly Cars Taxi), green is Arabia Taxi, and orange is Metro Taxi. Here is the full Dubai taxi colour code at a glance:

Roof colour Taxi operator
Red Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC)
Yellow National Taxi (owned by DTC since July 2026)
Blue Kabi (formerly Cars Taxi), older livery
Purple Kabi (formerly Cars Taxi), new livery
Green Arabia Taxi
Orange Metro Taxi
Pink DTC women and families only

Dubai Taxi Colour Code: Roof Panels Explained

Every standard taxi in Dubai has the same cream (off-white) body. What distinguishes one operator from another is the coloured panel on the roof of the vehicle. The RTA licenses multiple private companies to run Dubai's metered taxi fleet, and each company has a distinct roof colour.

Red
Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC)
The largest operator in Dubai, government-owned. The default taxi most passengers use.
Yellow
National Taxi
A franchise since 2000, owned by Dubai Taxi Company since July 2026, with more than 2,700 vehicles across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.
Blue
Kabi (formerly Cars Taxi)
Dubai's first franchised taxi company, renamed Kabi under the Al Ghurair group. Its blue roofs are being replaced by purple with no end date announced, so both colours are on the road.
Purple
Kabi (formerly Cars Taxi)
The new Kabi livery, rolling out across the fleet in place of the blue roofs.
Green
Arabia Taxi
Licensed private operator known for its eco-friendly hybrid fleet.
Orange
Metro Taxi
A smaller operator in the RTA-licensed fleet.
Pink
DTC women and families only
Pink-roof taxis have female drivers and carry women and families only.

Every operator uses the same RTA metered rates. The fare from A to B is the same regardless of which company's taxi you get into. The roof colour is purely for operator identification - it does not indicate price tier or service level.

The Lexus and Premium Taxi Colours

The RTA also operates a premium tier fleet known as Lexus taxis. These are typically dark-coloured Lexus ES sedans and are visually distinct from the cream standard fleet. Lexus taxis are metered vehicles and cannot be pre-booked in advance. You request them through the Dubai Taxi app and availability is limited.

UAE Taxi Colours by Emirate

  • Dubai: Cream body, coloured roof (red, yellow, blue, purple, green, or orange)
  • Abu Dhabi: Cream body with a gold or copper horizontal stripe along the side (TransAD)
  • Sharjah: Cream body, SRTA-licensed fleet - similar cream livery to Dubai but operated separately
  • Ajman: Cream vehicles, Ajman Transport Authority licensed
  • Ras Al Khaimah: Cream taxis, RAK Roads and Transport Authority fleet

Why the Colour Matters for Lost Property

Knowing which company's taxi you used is useful if you leave something behind. The RTA call centre on 800 90 90 (or [email protected]) takes lost property reports for every licensed Dubai taxi, whichever company runs it, and Dubai Taxi Company's own FAQ sends passengers there too. DTC also has its own customer line, 800 88088. The roof colour - or the taxi plate number if you noted it - helps the RTA narrow the search to one operator's fleet. A gold-striped Abu Dhabi taxi sits outside that system: TransAD handles its lost property on 600-535353.

This is one practical reason some passengers prefer pre-booked private chauffeurs: with Gulf Chauffeur, you have the driver's contact details and they have yours. There is no anonymous lost property system to deal with.

Dubai Taxi Colours FAQ

What colour are Dubai taxis?

Standard Dubai taxis operated by Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) are cream (off-white) with a distinctive coloured panel on the roof. The roof colour identifies the operating company: red for DTC, yellow for National Taxi (owned by DTC since July 2026), blue or purple for Kabi (formerly Cars Taxi), and green for Arabia Taxi. The body of all standard RTA-licensed taxis in Dubai is the same cream colour.

What is the Dubai taxi color code?

The Dubai taxi color code works like this: every taxi has a cream body and a coloured roof panel that identifies the operator. Red is Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC), yellow is National Taxi (part of DTC since July 2026), blue or purple is Kabi (formerly Cars Taxi, which is replacing its blue roofs with purple), green is Arabia Taxi, and orange is Metro Taxi. Pink-roof taxis are DTC vehicles with female drivers for women and families only. The colour does not change the fare - all operators charge the same RTA metered rate.

What is the difference between the different Dubai taxi roof colours?

Dubai has multiple taxi operators all licensed by the RTA. Dubai Taxi Corporation uses a red roof panel. National Taxi, owned by DTC since July 2026, uses yellow. Kabi, the renamed Cars Taxi, uses blue on older cars and purple on re-liveried ones. Arabia Taxi uses green. Metro Taxi uses orange. All are metered, RTA-regulated taxis with the same standard cream body colour - the roof panel is simply how you identify which company the vehicle belongs to.

What do the coloured roofs on Dubai taxis mean?

The coloured roof panel on a Dubai taxi indicates the operating company, not the service tier. Every operator (DTC and its National Taxi subsidiary, Kabi, Arabia Taxi and Metro Taxi) works under the same RTA metering standards. The company branding helps the RTA trace the vehicle if you leave something behind.

Are Lexus taxis different from standard Dubai taxis?

Yes. Lexus taxis are the RTA premium fleet and are a distinct vehicle type from standard cream taxis. They are typically dark-coloured Lexus ES sedans with RTA markings. They are metered taxis, not private chauffeurs, and cannot be pre-booked - they are requested through the Dubai Taxi app.

What colour are Abu Dhabi taxis?

Abu Dhabi taxis have a silver body and a yellow roof sign - a different colour scheme from Dubai's cream taxis. They are regulated by Abu Dhabi Mobility, the Integrated Transport Centre, under the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport. The colouring is distinct enough that it is easy to tell an Abu Dhabi taxi from a Dubai taxi.

What color is a Dubai taxi?

A standard Dubai taxi is cream (off-white) on the body with a single coloured roof panel. The most common Dubai taxi color you will see is the red-roof Dubai Taxi Corporation cab, since DTC runs the largest fleet. Other roof colours (yellow, blue, purple, green, orange, pink) simply mark the other RTA-licensed operators. Premium Lexus taxis are a separate dark-coloured fleet.

How are private chauffeurs different from taxi colours?

Private chauffeur services like Gulf Chauffeur do not operate as part of the RTA taxi system and do not use the cream and coloured-roof livery. Our vehicles - GMC Yukons and Mercedes-Benz Vitos - are standard private vehicles. You pre-book in advance, get a fixed price, and the driver is reserved for your journey.
