What Is Metro Taxi Company LLC?

Metro Taxi Co. LLC, searched far more often as Metro Taxi Company LLC, is a privately owned taxi franchise operating under licence from Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority. It belongs to the Ilyas & Mustafa Galadari Group, which still lists Metro Taxi among its businesses in 2026. Because the company sets no fares of its own, cannot pick up at the airports and publishes no booking number that we could find, what matters to a passenger is recognising the car and knowing which RTA channel handles what.

It is still trading, too. The RTA named Metro Taxi among Dubai's taxi operators in a February 2023 fleet update. In December 2024 Gargash Motors and the Galadari group announced a deal for new hybrid cars, and in July 2025 American Express listed Metro Taxi among the RTA franchise fleets that had started taking its cards. We found no report of a merger, sale or closure.

How to Recognise a Metro Taxi

Look at the roof. Licensed Dubai taxis share the same cream body, and the roof carries the operator's colour: Metro Taxi's is orange, where Dubai Taxi Company's is red. Orange is the roof you will see least often, for reasons covered in the next section, and our Dubai taxi colours guide sets out the colour key for the rest of the fleet. One entry in that key is mid-change: blue roofs are giving way to purple now that Cars Taxi trades as Kabi.

The body under that roof can vary. The Gargash Motors deal supplies GAC EMKOO hybrids to the fleet, and the EMKOO is a compact SUV rather than the saloon most Dubai taxis use. Neither company said how many cars the order covered, so an EMKOO is one possible Metro car, not the standard one.

Why Orange Roofs Are So Rare

On the last published count, Metro Taxi was the smallest licensed taxi operator in Dubai by a distance. Mid-2023 figures drawn from Dubai Taxi Company's stock market listing put Metro at 713 cars, roughly 6 percent of the city's taxis, against 5,216 cars and a 44 percent share for Dubai Taxi Company itself. The biggest operator has only grown since: after completing its purchase of National Taxi on 8 July 2026, Dubai Taxi Company reported about 59 percent of the Dubai market.

Location matters as well. Dubai Taxi Company is the only operator authorised to pick up taxi passengers at Dubai's airports and at the Port Rashid cruise terminal, so the arrivals queue at DXB will not produce an orange roof. Everywhere else, Metro's cars pick up across the city like any other licensed taxi.

Can You Book a Metro Taxi?

Not specifically. The RTA stopped dispatching taxis from its call centre and moved booking to Hala, its joint service with Careem, with the switch completed in January 2020. Hala and the apps that followed it assign the car for you, so an orange roof arriving after an app booking is luck rather than choice. Directory websites list several phone numbers under Metro Taxi's name. None of them appears on an RTA page or on the Galadari group's own site, so we have not repeated them here. If you want to ride with Metro in particular, the reliable method is the oldest one: flag down an orange roof with its sign lit.

Fares: The RTA Meter, Not Metro's

Metro Taxi has no tariff of its own. The RTA sets one regulated tariff for every franchise operator and adjusts it for fuel prices, so a ride under an orange roof costs the same as the identical trip under a red one, surcharges included. You can pay by card: when American Express was switched on across more than 13,000 RTA franchise taxis in July 2025, Metro Taxi was on the list.

Complaints About a Metro Taxi Ride

Take complaints to the regulator rather than the company. The RTA licenses Metro Taxi like every other franchise, and a complaint on 800 90 90 or to [email protected] should get you a reference number to chase. A case becomes traceable when you give the taxi's number, the date, the time and your route, most of which is on your receipt or in your app's trip history.
