Dubai Airport Taxi Fare at a Glance

You may see AED 25 quoted as the airport start: that is the figure on Dubai Airports' taxi page. The RTA's fare table and Dubai Taxi's airport page split it into AED 20 for a standard car and AED 25 for a van. Every fare below is an estimate worked from published rates; the meter is the only exact figure.

How a DXB Taxi Fare Builds

The RTA writes the fare as a sum: base fare, plus kilometre charge, plus waiting time, plus Salik, plus a fee for entering Sharjah or Abu Dhabi's DARB toll network where the route does. At the airport, the base fare is the AED 20 or AED 25 start, in place of the AED 5.00 street flag fall (AED 5.50 from 10pm). That is why a short airport ride costs more than the same distance across town.

The kilometre charge is where published figures disagree. Our fare guides use about AED 2.19 per km, the fuel-linked Dubai rate, which Dubai Taxi also quotes for its ladies and family taxi. Its airport taxi page lists AED 2.62 per km. The table below shows the spread: AED 2.19 over the shorter distance at the low end, AED 2.62 over the longer distance at the high end.

A worked example: DXB to Dubai Marina, about 30 km, in a standard car. AED 20 plus 30 km at AED 2.19 is AED 85.70; at AED 2.62 it is AED 98.60. Twenty minutes crawling in traffic adds AED 10 of waiting time, and two Salik gates in the evening peak add AED 12. That is how a ride that looks like AED 86 on paper can finish near AED 120 at 6pm.

One rule works in your favour. The RTA's fare page states that a journey is free if the meter is not in operation, so check it is running as you pull away from the kerb.

DXB Taxi Fares to Common Destinations

Estimated 2026 fares for a standard taxi from the rank, before Salik and waiting time. Distances match our area and fare guides. Terminal 1 is slightly closer to Deira and Bur Dubai than Terminal 3; from Terminal 2, city runs are a little longer and Sharjah a little closer.

Two rows need a note. Sharjah is close in kilometres, but a Dubai taxi adds AED 20 once it crosses the border and the corridor crawls at rush hour; our Dubai to Sharjah fare guide splits that trip by pickup point. Where the Taxi Ranks Are at T1, T2 and T3

Every DXB terminal has its own rank, served by Dubai Taxi around the clock, and the routine is the same at all three: clear customs, follow the taxi signs out of the arrivals hall, and the cars are lined up in front of the exit door. Tell the taxi organiser at the rank if you need a van or a baby seat. Ride-hailing cars from Uber, Careem and Bolt collect from their own signposted point instead.

Terminal 2 is the one that catches people out: it stands across the runways from T1 and T3 with its own access road, so the wrong terminal is a drive away, not a walk. Our DXB Terminal 2 pickup guide covers its arrivals layout and pickup points.

Night Arrivals, Salik and Peak Hours

Street taxis in Dubai move to a higher flag fall at 10pm. The airport start does not: the RTA lists AED 20 for a standard car and AED 25 for a van as an all-day rate, so a 3am landing pays the same start as a 3pm one. Night arrivals often finish cheaper, because the roads are clear, the waiting charge barely moves, and Salik gates charge nothing between 01:00 and 06:00.

Peaks run the other way. Salik costs AED 6 per gate from 06:00 to 10:00 and 16:00 to 20:00 (not on Sundays) and AED 4 at other times, and every stationary minute adds AED 0.50. Dubai Taxi notes that its fares can change at peak hours, at event locations and on New Year's Eve. To avoid tolled roads, the RTA says to tell the driver at the start of the trip; otherwise tolls are billed to you.

Luggage, Vans and the Ladies and Family Taxi

There is no luggage fee; the RTA fare formula has no line for bags. The limit is space. A standard saloon takes roughly two large cases plus hand luggage, and beyond that you need a van at AED 25 to start. Dubai Taxi says a baby car seat can be requested from the airport taxi organiser, and wheelchair users can ask for its People of Determination taxi, which carries the same airport start. Pink-roof taxis are Dubai Taxi's ladies and family service, driven by women and reserved for women and families. Dubai Taxi lists Dubai International among its pickup places, subject to availability, and the RTA gives them the same airport start as other airport taxis. Because they are subject to availability, travellers who need a woman driver can arrange a female chauffeur with advance notice instead.

App or Rank?

Uber, Careem and Bolt all work at DXB from their own signposted pickup point. The difference is pricing: an app quotes before you confirm and the quote moves with demand, while the rank runs on the RTA meter. Dubai Taxi's advice for a taxi on landing is simply to join the queue, since its airport cars run 24 hours, and they can also be booked through the Bolt app. When several long-haul flights land together, check the app quote against the estimates above before accepting it.

Taxi or Pre-Booked Transfer: The Honest Comparison

On price alone, the rank wins most runs from DXB. A pre-booked private transfer costs more than the meter on almost every city trip, and it is not the cheaper way to reach Abu Dhabi either. What the extra money buys is certainty: a named driver, a fixed figure and a vehicle sized to your group.

The taxi rank is the better call when:

• You land in daylight or early evening with a bag or two
• You are heading somewhere central such as Deira, Bur Dubai or Downtown, and your group fits in one car
• You are happy for the traffic to decide the final figure

A pre-booked car is worth the extra when:

• The flight lands between midnight and 6am and you are travelling with children
• You are five or more with bags, which would mean two taxis and two meters
• The flight is running hours late and you want someone tracking it
• You need a fixed amount for an expense claim or a client
• You are going on to another emirate and want the price settled before you land
